Handover of Covid-19 Equipment to KIMS

To keep KIMS students healthy and in compliance with Covid directives, BMM procured non-touch temperature readers, automatic hand sanitizer dispenser, surface sanitizers, alcohol-based sanitizers and surgical masks. The equipment was received by the KIMS Coordinator Dr. Lubale and Dr. Anne Khasakhala, Director of the Population Studies and Research Institute (PSRI), which hosts KIMS at the University of Nairobi. The college Registrar Mr. Leonard Musyoka also joined the occasion.

Kenya National CSO Coordination Workshop

Kenyan CSOs came together virtually on 28 January 2021 for their 3rd annual planning workshop, which aimed to strengthen communication between organisations and to coordinate activities for the year. One of the benefits of the coordination workshop has been an increased representation from the Government in CSO activity coordination and planning. This early coordination of activities improved the close cooperation between government and non-government stakeholders.

KIMS is hosted at the Population Studies and Research institute (PSRI)

The Kenya Institute of Migration Studies (KIMS) is the Regional Centre of Excellence for Migration Studies in the Horn of Africa. KIMS is hosted at the Population Studies and Research institute (PSRI) of University of Nairobi (UoN); and KIMS is collaborating with Maastricht University Graduate School of Governance. KIMS is “brainchild” of the Kenyan National Coordination Mechanism on Migration (NCM) Secretariat during tenure of Maj.Gen. (rtd) Dr. Gordon Kihalangwa as the Principal Secretary for State Department of Immigration & Citizen Services.

Dr. Mold Pitches for Continental Free Trade Agreement

The African Continental Free Trade Agreement offers hope of a revival of both regional and intra-African trade to boost trade and development in Eastern Africa.
This was the overarching message during Dr Andrew Mold’s IDS seminar presentation on the potential impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Eastern Africa region and the next steps concerning implementing the agreement.

UoN Students Tour to United Nations

The University of Nairobi Students from the Department of Literature, Soka University Students on exchange programme toured the United Nation lead by the Chair Dept of Literature Dr. Masumi Odari. The guided tour offers an exciting opportunity for students to discover UN Headquarters, the tour guide took students on a brief journey through the corridors of international diplomacy to learn about the history and work of the United Nations, they visited the famous General Assembly Hall and Security Council Chambers.

Soka University Summer Exchange Programme

The Department of Literature hosted Soka University Students from Japan for a joint summer student exchange program. The programme was designed to empower students to explore, participate and enhance their leadership capabilities.
Later on Students together with the Soka Representatives, Chair Dept of Literature Dr. Masumi met the Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Ephraim Wahome where they engaged in various matters in regards to the student's leadership mentorship programs, exchange programs and academic trips.
